Some patterns are made to be cute. Others are made to be clever. And then there’s this one—our Glow-in-the-Dark Ghost, which is unapologetically both.
This tiny 3x3 design was created as a quick-stitch Halloween project, but with a twist: we wanted it to feel a little magical. Something you could finish in one sitting, gift to a friend, or hang in a shadowy corner of your home and smile every time it glowed.
The Idea
The ghost started, honestly, as a doodle with no plan. A soft, floating blob with two round eyes and just enough personality to be spooky and sweet. But then we thought… what if it glowed?
That’s when the pattern really came to life.
We designed it to work with DMC glow-in-the-dark embroidery floss, which stitches just like regular thread but creates a soft, eerie glow when the lights go out. It’s the kind of tiny surprise that makes this pattern extra fun—especially for stitchers who love a bit of novelty.
The Design Process
- Size: We kept it small—just 3x3 inches—so it’s fast to finish and great for beginners.
- Simplicity: The ghost is made up of just a few solid blocks of stitches, to define the shape.
- Details: Two black stitches give the ghost its signature wide-eyed look. And a stitcher could add small white stars (single stitched X in glow in the dark thread randomly stitched in the background) to add a celestial touch if you want to go full spooky-cute.
- We tested the design with both standard and glow-in-the-dark floss to make sure it looks great in daylight and in the dark.
Stitching Tips
- Use DMC E940 (Glow-in-the-Dark) thread or any similar specialty floss.
- Stitch on black Aida for maximum glow effect.
- Great for framing in a mini hoop or stitching onto Halloween treat bags or cards.
This little ghost may be tiny, but it packs a glow-in-the-dark punch—and it’s one of our favorite seasonal patterns to stitch again and again.
